How to restore a coffee table
- Mix ½ cup of Selleys Sugar Soap into ½ bucket (5 litres) of water. Use a soft clean cloth to clean the table from top to bottom with the sugar soap solution.

Why each stage matters
Clean first, and clean again
The two washes are doing different jobs. The first lifts the polish, grease and grime that a coffee table accumulates — sanding through that just presses it into the grain. The second removes the sanding dust, which is what stops adhesive and finish keying to the timber.

Then roller the whole surface. Contact adhesives need pressure to complete the bond, and the roller is what supplies it evenly and pushes out trapped air. Full strength is reached at 24 hours, so leave the table alone for a day before putting anything heavy on it.
