Hazard information for Storm Sealant
Storm Sealant carries the signal word Warning, with H317 (may cause an allergic skin reaction) and H319 (causes serious eye irritation).
Skin sensitisation (H317) is not irritation. Irritation settles when contact stops; sensitisation is the immune system learning to react, generally permanent once acquired, triggered thereafter by far smaller exposures, and built by repeated casual contact rather than one big exposure. That is why it matters on a product you use often.
The hazard-to-use mismatch on this product is worth stating plainly: Storm exists for emergency repair in the wet, which in practice means on a roof, in rain, possibly at night, often on a ladder. Those are precisely the conditions in which gloves and eye protection get skipped. If you are reaching for it in an emergency, it is still a sensitiser.
Storm also publishes very little technical data — Selleys issues a VOC certificate rather than a full data sheet — so movement capability, cure rate and service temperature are not available. The practical rule that follows: stop the leak with Storm, then reinstate the joint with a fully specified sealant once the roof is dry.
