Selleys 3 in 1 cures at a rate of 3 to 4mm per 24 hours at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. In most common applications full cure is reached within about 48 hours. Its published skin time is 15 to 30 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity, with a tooling time of approximately 15 minutes.

The important thing to take from those numbers is that a cure rate is not a cure time. 3 in 1 cures from the outside in as it reacts with moisture in the air, so how long the whole bead takes depends entirely on how thick it is. A 3mm bead is effectively cured in a day. A 12mm bead applied as an adhesive is still curing on day four.

What the timing means job by job

Tooling: about 15 minutes. This is the tightest window in the whole schedule. Tool the bead with a soap solution before skinning occurs. Once the surface has begun to skin — from 15 minutes — tooling tears the surface rather than smoothing it, and the only fix is to cut the bead out and start again. Work in manageable lengths and tool as you go.

Masking tape: off before it skins. If you have masked either side of a joint for a neat edge, pull the tape while the sealant is still open. Tape removed after skinning drags the edge of the bead with it.

Painting: after it has skinned, water-based only. As a gap filler, apply into the gap, smooth off with a spatula dipped in soapy water, and let it skin before painting with a water-based paint. It cannot be painted with solvent-based paints unless you apply a water-based paint first.

Adhesive use: support the load. Larger, heavier items need to be supported until the adhesive cures. With a cure rate of 3 to 4mm per 24 hours, the middle of a thick adhesive bead is uncured long after the surface feels hard.

Cure depends on moisture, not heat

3 in 1 is a moisture-curing product. It takes the moisture it needs from the air, which is why the published figures are always stated at 50% relative humidity. In dry conditions the cure is slower; in a warm, humid Australian summer it is faster. Applying heat to speed it up does not help, because heat lowers relative humidity rather than raising it.

Apply between 5 and 30°C. Outside that range the cure will not behave as published.

It is a genuine three-in-one: a high strength construction adhesive, a waterproof sealant and a no-shrink gap filler. It works on glass, metal, timber, brick, concrete, tiles and most plastics, on wet or dry surfaces, inside and out. Its 0mm slump means a vertical bead stays where you put it.

Limitations

Selleys 3 in 1 White is not classified as hazardous under Safe Work Australia GHS 7, and not Dangerous Goods. No signal word, no hazard statements. That is a definite statement from its own safety data sheet rather than missing information, and for a product doing construction-adhesive work it is unusual — most high-strength construction adhesives in this range are solvent-borne and arrive with a flammability classification attached.

The ~34 g/L VOC figure in the specification above is the same fact stated another way: there is very little volatile solvent in the cartridge to evaporate. A bead curing in a cupboard, a bathroom or along a wall joint over two days is not filling the room with anything.
