How do you get in touch with Selleys?
There are three ways, and which one you should use depends on how urgent your question is.
- Product enquiries and feedback — 1300 555 205. Choose option 2 for product or technical advice. This is the number to ring if you need to know whether a product suits your job before you start it.
- Live chat — available from the bottom right hand corner of the Selleys site, staffed by the Help & Advice team Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm (AEDT/AEST), excluding public holidays. Best for quick "will this stick to that" questions during business hours.
- Enquiry form — submit the form on the contact page and Selleys will get back to you within 24 business hours. Best for anything that needs a photo, a batch code, or a written record.
For medical assistance in an emergency only: 1800 220 770, or 13 11 26.
Before you call: check the safety data sheet
A large share of enquiries are answered faster by the product's own documentation than by a phone call, because the answer is already written down.
Selleys safety data sheets are published in two places. Each product page carries its own sheet under the Downloads section, which is the quickest route if you know the product. Alternatively, the complete list is at safety data sheets. Technical data sheets — the documents with cure rates, skin times, substrates and limitations — are collected at technical documents, and independent test certificates at test certificates.
If you cannot find the sheet you are after, that is precisely what the Help & Advice team is for.
What the enquiry form asks for
Knowing this in advance saves a second round of emails. The form collects:
- Title, first name and last name (all required).
- Mobile number — ten digits starting with 0, no spaces (required). A separate landline field is optional.
- Email address (required).
- Street and unit number, street name and suburb or city (optional), plus postcode, country and state (required).
- Enquiry type, chosen from a list that includes complaints about packaging and complaints about performance.
- Your message (required).
- An optional image attachment — png, jpg, jpeg or gif, up to 5 MB.
- A reCAPTCHA check.
Attach a photo if you possibly can. For a performance complaint or an application question, a picture of the joint, the failure or the pack does more than several paragraphs of description — and the batch code on the pack tells the technical team things nothing else will.
Getting a useful answer to a technical question
The Help & Advice team can only give you a confident answer if they know what is on both sides of the joint. When you contact them, have ready:
- Both substrates, named as precisely as you can — "powder coated aluminium to glazed porcelain tile", not "metal to tile". Substrate is what decides most product recommendations, and several Selleys products have explicit exclusions for polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE.
- Whether the joint is wet, damp, permanently immersed, or exposed to UV. Permanent immersion in particular rules out most of the silicone range.
- Whether it will be painted, and when. Most silicones are not paintable and require painting to be completed seven days beforehand.
- Whether the joint moves, and roughly how wide and deep it is.
- Indoor or outdoor, and the temperature range it will see.
