For an adhesive, identify both substrates, whether either surface is porous, the load, the joint gap, the required working time and whether temporary support or mechanical fixing is needed. Initial grab, support removal and full cure are different milestones.

For a sealant or filler, establish the joint width and depth, expected movement, water exposure, required finish and whether the product must be painted. A water-resistant filler is not automatically a waterproof sanitary seal, and an elongation-at-break result is not automatically a rated movement capability.

For cleaners and maintenance products, check the surface exclusions, dilution, required contact time, ventilation and personal protective equipment. Test delicate, coated or unknown surfaces in an inconspicuous area.
