Most of this range is mild. Two products are not, and they are the two most likely to be handed to whoever is helping wash the car, because tyres and wheels are the boring jobs.

Wheel Cleaner is the one to watch, and the specification is misleading if read too quickly. Its published formulation is non acid, which is a statement about what it will not do to an alloy or a lacquered wheel finish — not a statement about your eyes. It still carries H318, serious eye damage: the category above irritation, meaning harm that may not fully reverse. The job makes it worse, because you spray it into a wheel arch at knee height and then look at the wheel to see if it has worked. Safety glasses, not sunglasses.

Tyre Shine is the only aerosol in the range, and two of its four statements — H222 and H229 — belong to the pack rather than the chemistry. The practical consequence is storage: its own specification says not to expose the can to temperatures above 50 °C, and a car boot in an Australian summer passes that comfortably. It is the one product in this category that should not live in the vehicle it is used on.

The washes are the gentle end. Wash & Wax, the Hose On, Spray Wax, Interior Protectant and the RP7 degreaser all state positively on their own safety data sheets that no GHS hazard class applies — that is an affirmative finding, not missing information. If the constraint is a child helping, sensitive skin, or working in a closed garage, those five are where to start.

Comparing the liquids on the numbers that decide the job

Only part of this category publishes figures. The accessories — drying towel, plush pile mitt, microfibre cloth, wheel brush — have no chemistry and no specification to compare, and the wipes publish none either.

The degreaser is chemically the odd one out, by about two orders of magnitude. Of the four products that publish a pH, three sit between 6.5 and 8.5 — near neutral, as a paint-safe wash has to be. RP7 Heavy Duty Degreaser sits at 10.5, and because pH is logarithmic that is roughly a hundredfold step in alkalinity above the top of the wash range. That is what lets it break down engine grease, and it is also the reason it is not a body wash by another name. Use it where the page says — engines, machinery, soiled tools — not on paintwork because the bottle happened to be closer.

Alkalinity and hazard are not the same thing. The most alkaline product here is also one of the five that carries no GHS classification at all, while Wheel Cleaner — which publishes no pH and advertises itself as non-acid — is the one rated for serious eye damage. Reading strength off a pH number, or safety off a "non acid" claim, gets this category backwards both ways.

Only two products are concentrates, and it changes what a bottle is worth. Wash & Wax at 30 mL per bucket yields the 33 washes its own specification claims from a single litre — the arithmetic is consistent. The Windscreen Additive's 75 mL standard dose makes its 500 mL bottle about six top-ups, or three if the car has a reservoir over 4 litres. Everything else in the table is used neat, so a 500 mL pack is 500 mL of work. Worth noting that the Heavy Duty product is sold as a 2L Hose On yet publishes a bucket dilution rather than a hose-on rate, so the number of washes in that pack is not calculable from what is published — check the applicator instructions rather than assuming it scales from the 1 litre bottle.
