What are Selleys Oven Wipes, and where should you use them?

Selleys Oven Wipes are pre-moistened cleaning wipes for the inside of ovens, formulated to tackle everyday grease, grime and food spills. Each wipe combines tough cleaning nodules with a powerful cleaning formulation: the nodules loosen burnt-on food and cut through grime, while the strong cloth traps and absorbs the grease and spills instead of pushing them around.

They are super-sized at 250 mm × 275 mm, and come as a white cloth with black nodules on one side. The pack size available is a 25 pack.

The one thing to be clear on before you buy: these are a maintenance product, not a deep-clean product. Selleys states plainly that they will not remove heavy carbonised residue. The trick that makes them work: clean warm, not cold

The single most useful piece of technique Selleys publishes for this product is that grease is easier to remove if the oven is slightly warm. The stated method is to warm the oven, turn it off, make sure it is cool enough to touch, and then clean.

That sequence matters in that order. "Cool enough to touch" is the safety condition and it is not negotiable — you are putting your hands and forearms inside the cavity. But a cavity that is still gently warm gives you noticeably more out of each wipe than a cold one, because warm grease moves and cold grease does not.

The other habit worth building is resealing the pack immediately. The instructions mention it twice, which is unusual, and the reason is straightforward: these wipes depend on staying moist, and a pack left open with the sticker peeled back will dry out. Reseal after pulling a wipe, not after finishing the job.

How to use them

1. Warm the oven, turn it off, and let it cool until it is safe to touch. This step is optional but makes the grease far easier to shift.
2. Slowly peel back the resealable sticker and pull a wipe out of the pack.
3. Reseal the sticker to keep the remaining wipes fresh and ready for next use.
4. Wipe with the nodule side down over the oven walls, racks and door, so the nodules scrub while the cloth absorbs the grease, grime and food spills.
5. Reseal the sticker again when you are finished.
6. Dispose of the used wipe in the rubbish bin.

Limitations — where they should NOT be used

• Not for use on skin.
• For use only on the inside of ovens and microwaves. They are not a general kitchen wipe.

The practical point is about which product suits which job, not just which one cleans harder. An unclassified wipe can be used on a still-warm cavity with bare hands and no preparation.
